Our Studio

Who are we?

NSAD is a family-run, community-driven dance school, proudly owned by Dylan and Alicia Steyns. We aim to provide a rich environment where a wide range of learning opportunities are available to dancers of all skill levels. Our students have the opportunity to develop poise, grace, coordination, self confidence and, most importantly, discipline of both body and mind. These skills benefit our dancers not just during their critical years of childhood, but throughout their lifetimes.

Our wide range of dance genres is available to all age groups, from pre-school to adult, from within six specific programs:

  • Preschool
  • General
  • Examination Levels (R.A.D. and I.S.T.D.)
  • Competitive Solos/Duos & Trios
  • Audition Only Performing Classes
  • Half-Day

Our Visionary

For over a decade, Chelsea Steyns was one of the main instructors at North Shore Academy of Dancing. In 2007, she fulfilled her life’s dream by purchasing the studio and becoming its Principal and Artistic Director. Her vision was to provide an environment where dance could be enjoyed by students of all ages and skill levels.

She was sensitive to the demands of her students and molded her curriculum accordingly. With the aide of her mother, brother and many dedicated staff, she created a multi faceted program that allowed for the development of well-rounded or cross-trained dancers who could choose their level of commitment. Most importantly, she provided an environment where dance could be taken seriously but still be fun.

After her tragic passing in June of 2013, her brother, Dylan assumed leadership of the studio and, with the backing of a very committed faculty team, has dedicated himself to carrying Chelsea’s legacy forward and allowing NSAD students to continue benefiting from her vision.

The Facilities

Our facility includes four separate and spacious studios at one location, each with sprung floors and performance grade Marley floor surfaces. Our front desk is staffed during studio hours with friendly staff members willing to help out with any questions or requests.
